Stoke-on-Trent or Stoke is a central city of Birmingham and Manchester and situated in the upper valley of the Trent River with a population of around 253,200 in 2016 and has an area of 36 square miles.

Stoke-on-Trent or Stoke is a central city of Birmingham and Manchester and situated in the upper valley of the Trent River with a population of around 253,200 in 2016 and has an area of 36 square miles. It is also known as polycentric city and ‘the city of five towns’ of the United Kingdom, while other towns are Longton, Burslem, Fenton and Tunstall.The city is surrounded by a large number of suburbs including Adderley Green, Cliffe Vale, Hartshill, Bucknall, Sandyford and Trent Vale. The city has a large number of pottery industries and also known as Potteries. The ministerial department of the town declined the city status due to less number of inhabitants, later on, the decision was changed by King George V and granted the city status in 1925.
Economy
The city was affected by the decline in the manufacturing sector of the Britain resulted in the unemployment of the skilled workforce. Many pottery and steel work firms were closed. There are total 9000 companies in the city and famous among those are Stoke City, Phones4U, Bet365 and Peter Coates. The city is the home of two major employers such as City Council and Royal Stoke University Hospital. According to the recent survey by KPMG, the city is declared as a most effective place to start a new business due to its strategic location and affordable business property. Even Quality Formations listed the city as the best city to commence any business as a result of easy access to public transportation, retail spaces and virtual offices.
Attractions
National Garden Festival was launched in 1986 and became famous among the tourists for activities including Water Park, Ten pin bowling and Odeon cinemas. Other enthusiastic places to visit in the city are Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, Gladstone Museum, The Elizabethan Ford Green Hall, Alton Towers Resort and many more exciting locations.
