Lincoln is situated in the East Midlands and 141 miles north of London with a population of around 130,200 in 2011 census. History of the city traced its roots from an Iron Age. The city is evolved from the Lindum Colonia of Roman history, also known as ‘The place by the pool’ and became developed settlement which is easily accessible from Witham and Trent River.The city is divided into two parts: Uphill comprises historical buildings, residential colonies and downhill consists the centre of the city.The city was affected by civil war in the 16th century and town buildings and industries were damaged. New water supply and chlorination of water were introduced into the city in the beginning of 19th century to protect the people from drinking the polluted water.
During the two world wars, the city was actively involved in the production of war goods from scrapped aircraft, military vehicles and tanks and increased the opportunities for employment. The city is home to various employment sectors such as education, commerce, health, entertainment and public administration holding 60% of the workforce. Many new developmental projects of Information Technology, electronics and retail parks are also emerging in the city boosting the wealth of the city. The city is famous for historical places includes Lincoln Cathedral, Museum Of Lincolnshire Life, Norman House, Lincoln Castle, The Collection and Bishop’s Palace.
Education:
The city has various grammar, comprehensive, special needs schools and Local education authority is responsible for providing education in the city. For higher education, the city is served by the University of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste University. Lincoln College also known as Further Education College is located on the monk's road and is a biggest educational institution in the city.
