Leicester is a city in the East Midlands of UK. Leicester mainly lies on the bank of River Soar. On the other hand, Leicester is very close to the eastern end of the National Forest. In 2011, the population of Leicester was 329,839. Leicester is located on the point where two major railway lines, the north/south Midland Main Line and the east/west Birmingham.
History:
The early names of Leicester were Cair Lerion and Ligora-ceastre. Leicester is the city having history two millennia back and is also known as the oldest city in England. Romans also travelled Leicester in AD 47. Leicester lost its status from 11th century to 19th century because of the owing to power struggles between the Church and the aristocracy. A slight change in temperature was discovered from 1990 to 2003. Average rainfall during the period of 1971-2000 was 684.4 mm per year.

According to 2011 census, the population of Leicester increased 11.8% as compared to the Census 2001. Although Nottingham has higher urban area population than Leicester in case of a unitary authority, Leicester’s population was higher. According to 2011 census, white was 50.6% of the total population, whereas Asian were 37.1% and remaining percentage were of mixed-race.Leicester is recorded as the second fastest-growing city in the UK. There was a rapid increase in the population from the year 1901 to present.
Economy
Leicester is the largest economic country from the East Midlands. This city had a great link with the clothing, shoes, engineering, shopping, food and drinks. Although companies like Liberty Shoes, Corah and Equity Shoes have closed another's companies like Next and Bodan are still there in the city. The estimated GVA of Leicester is recorded as £15.3 billion in a recent study by Experian or experts.
