Dunfermline

Dunfermline is a Royal Burgh and the tenth largest town of Scotland with a population of around 49,706 according to 2011 census. The city is also known as a dormitory town for Edinburgh and ancient capital of Scotland. The traces of history was first found in Neolithic period in the 11^th century including the discovery of Cropmark used for the mortuary enclosure, arrowheads and carved stone ball. The era of Bronze Age came with significant finds of Cist burials, gold torc, Wellwood and a bronze dagger. The three-quarters of the city witnessed massive fire leading to the decline in the wealth of the city. The city grew strongly during the industrial revolution with the establishment of linen and coal industries on the north and south territory of the burgh. But these industries stopped its production and became obsolete at the end of Second World War. In 1960’s, Pitreavie Business Park and new plant of Monotype Corporation were established provided more investment and employment opportunities. The city is home to many large employers including Sky UK, Lloyds and Nationwide, Best Western, FMC Technologies, Amazon and CR Smith creating a large number of new jobs.

New development projects included construction of fully integrated townships, community infrastructure, commercial complex, supermarkets, primary schools and leisure parks were planned on the east and south west end of the town. Dunfermline has two Railway station located in the south and east side respectively and one Bus station on the north of the town. The nearest international airport catering the need of the residents is Edinburgh Airport is situated 13 miles away from the town.
