Sharjah

Sharjah is the third-largest city in the United Arab Emirates and the capital of the emirate of the same name – Sharjah Emirate. The city is the only one to have landed on both the Persian Gulf Coast and the Gulf of Oman. Sharjah is a center for culture and industry and contributes around 7.4% of the GDP of the UAE. The city covers an approximate area of 235 km². As per 2015 census conducted by the department of statistics and community development, the total population of the emirate is 1.40 Million. Sharjah is recognized for its Islamic and Arabic architecture and its libraries, and Islamic museums. The city has been officially named as a WHO healthy city. In the year 2019, Sharjah was named World Book Capital by UNESCO.

A common slogan - "Smile you're in Sharjah!" used around the city to describe the family-friendly atmosphere of the city. Sharjah has a reasonably well-developed transport infrastructure. The Sharjah International Airport is the aviation hub of the city. According to official 2015 statistics from Airports Council International, Sharjah Airport is the third largest Middle East airfreight hub in cargo tonnage. The Sharjah Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) is responsible for reinforcing public transportation, provide modern and professional transport services to the passengers, etc. The city has a hot desert climate, with sweltering and humid summers and warm winters. Rainfall is generally light and occurs almost from November to May.
